She's Goin' Zebra

Kailee is re-doing her room. Oh I'm helping, but for the most part, she's doing it! She decided what she wanted it to look like and we'll be going to town very soon. Then there will be more posts about zebra stuff. Cuz that's what she has chosen: bright pink & zebra stripes with a little "french inspired" stuff thrown in.

First up, my little creation on the fly. While at Hobby Lobby (my personal heaven on earth) I saw this plastic 99 cent plate and my mind started rolling...
I spotted this mirror and knew what was about to happen...
Add a little E-6000, black ribbon and some white vinyl and what do you get?
This:

I drilled two holes into the plate and threaded the ribbon through. Then I went crazy cutting odd shaped zebra stripes from vinyl and attached them to the edge of the plate, since that's all that would show. This seriously was my favorite part, cutting stripes, so therapeutic. Have you ever used E-6000? It's stinky, but it works! I glued the mirror to the plate and waited...
It finally dried so that I could hang it up and get a picture. I love it, but I think I'm going to add some feathers to the edge? Whatcha think?

Blocks

This idea is anything but new. Just sayin'. But since I had my dad cut me a million blocks several months ago, and since I still have a half a million left, I decided to use a few for this project. Can I just tell you how much I love this paper! This is a baby gift for a friend of mine.
Not that you need a How To, but here it is: I simply painted my sanded blocks and the flowers. Then sanded the edges of my blocks again. I Mod Podged the cute paper on. Cut out the vinyl letters with my Cricut. Drilled holes in the tops of the 3 block and glued the flowers to a dowel and then stuck them in the holes. You can't see that the flowers have small clothes pins on the backs so that pictures can be put in. I tied raffia (yes, it's still around) to the remaining blocks. Wah La!

So Lucky to Have You

I found this cute printable here:  http://eighteen25.blogspot.com/2011/02/im-so-lucky.html
So, I was perusing at the dollar store and came upon these cute little cereal cups. PERFECT! It's practical because I know they will be consumed! Who doesn't love Lucky Charms?

The LUCKY recipients are my hubby and 2 kids, of course. As long as they don't read this blog before St. Patty's Day, then this will be a surprise.
I just printed the sign and cut them out, mounted them onto red cardstock, attached a skewer with tape, tied ribbon on the skewer and taped it onto the container. EASY PEASY!

Sweater Makeover

I've been inspired to "re-purpose" clothing lately. I read, re-read and stalk blogs like it's going out of style. A whole bunch have had clothing makeovers. Too many to list... I'm not a trendy brat but I hate having the same wardrobe year after year. I was going through my closet not too long ago and realized that I had a few items that were old. This particular sweater was on it's way to the DI. And then...
The top photo is the before. It may be hard to see but the hood was falling off. How trashy is that? And I got so excited to get going that I forgot to take a picture before I took the zipper out, hence, the zipper just laying on top. And the zipper was broke, another trashy moment! The sleeves were very stretched out. The 2 bottom pics are the after photos. After taking the zipper out, I removed the (rest of) hood. I was planning on finishing the edges (around the top and down the center) with a wide grosgrain ribbon, but to my surprise, I found a finished edge on the center where I removed the zipper! Yay, alot less work for me. Around the collar I just sewed an edge.  I {heart} flowers so I HAD to throw some on this sweater. I folded up the sleeves and tacked a button on them, and ALL buttons used on this were from my grandmothers button can that I inherited!
There's alot more sewing projects to come on this blog. Yes, lately, my sewing machine & I have become friends.

Kiss Me, I'm Irish (not really)

I tried really, really hard to decorate for St. Patty's Day. But I didn't get too far.  I did, however, let my love of banners & felt take over... this is what I came up with:

It's all felt with a little rick rack (which you can't see,) and some ribbon. I wanted an "argyle" look, so I cut out diamonds and criss-crossed rick rack on each flag except the horseshoe/"U" one. I gathered gold ribbon and sewed it across the top. All the letters, horseshoe and diamonds are cut from the Cricut.
